This attractive sequel to the author's earlier book (Bexley Pubs) looks at those pubs that sadly no longer exist, specifically pubs that were created after 1830 (and since closed. Each district (eg Bexleyheath, Welling, Sidcup, Erith etc) has its former pubs listed and described. There are some excellent photos of former pubs (many in their local brewery livery) which illustrate the mixed urban, rural and riverside life here in the past. The text and photos are supplemented by attractive painted maps and plans and there are appendices of sources used, pub names, local brewery family trees and local pub tokens. Recommended for local and pub historian alike.
