A book which perhaps concentrates more on breweries than pubs, it describes the Welsh social and political pressures that breweries were operating in about a century ago, before going onto the Cardiff breweries. The author really brings the ups and downs of the brewery trade in the city to life with his accounts of the Ely Brewery, Hancock’s , Brain’s and Crosswell’s. Well illustrated too with brewery photos, adverts and sketches. The beers of Cardiff themselves get an interesting chapter before the Pubs of Cardiff close the book.
